Mr. Carlos Arcila has extensive experience in US and Colombian capital markets, specializing in investment portfolio management, risk management, and financial derivative trading, as well as a research and professional career in energy and carbon markets.
He is the founder and Chief Investment Officer of Sigma Advanced Capital Management,a hedge fund based in the United States that specializes in carbon and commodity markets. Mr. Arcila and Sigma Advanced Capital Management received the prestigious Best ESG Hedge Fund and Best Macro Commodity Hedge Fund awards in the United States from HFM and HedgeWeek, becoming the first Colombian and Colombian-founded hedge fund to achieve this distinction. Prior to establishing Sigma Advanced, Mr. Arcila was an Energy Risk Associate at Optima Consultores, a renowned Latin American energy and power consulting firm. In this position, he was responsible for establishing and managing the electricity risk program, trading power futures, and developing hedging strategies for Latin American companies. In addition, he has held various positions such as Investment Analyst, Trader, and Portfolio Manager for various national and international institution.
Mr. Arcila is an Adjunct Professor at both the University of Notre Dame (USA) and the Universidad de Los Andes (Colombia), where he teaches applied derivatives. Additionally, he serves as a Research Associate at the Universidad de Los Andes’ Center of Sustainable Finance, conducting research on sustainable finance, commodities, and carbon markets. In 2018 Mr. Arcila was nominated for the Best Professor in Colombia in 2018 by Portfolio. He has lectured, participated in panels, and presented as a guest speaker at various institutions, including the International Finance Corporation (IFC), HFM Within Intelligence, Ecuador’s San Francisco de Quito University (USFQ), and has published articles in Environmental Finance, CFA, and CAIA.
Carlos holds a Master of Science in Finance (Magna cum Laude) from the University of Notre Dame in the United States, and is a certified Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA), and GARP Sustainability and Climate Change Risk (SCR). Carlos is currently a Master of Studies in Sustainability Leadership candidate at the University of Cambridge in the UK. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the Universidad de Los Andes, with minors in Government.
